MPs contended that, particularly in older neighborhoods where infrastructure has not kept up with population development, overcrowding frequently results in conflicts, health issues, and safety dangers.
The suggested measures also seek to establish a database to rank the most urgent situations, offer low-interest loans for reconstruction projects, and expedite the house remodeling permit application process.
Ahmed Qarata, the second deputy speaker of parliament, stated that to make room for new construction, deteriorating houses must be demolished immediately.
As they were obliged to leave their run-down house, Bassema Mubarak brought attention to the suffering of a family with impaired members and another who was left homeless.
According to Social Development Minister Osama Al Alawi, the two families’ problem will be looked upon.
He mentioned that 51 families who had their homes destroyed the previous year received assistance.
Since 2019, 295 households whose homes were destroyed have received financial assistance and temporary housing.
Amna Al Romaihi, the minister of housing and urban planning, announced that 8,080 families who were in deteriorating dwellings received assistance at a cost of BD84 million.
“Also, they were immediately given the BD100 monthly housing allowance.
“Families facing hardship are moved to the widows, divorcees or orphans’ apartments in Luzi and soon to the new facility in Hidd and so far 600 cases have benefited.”
According to Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, 3,500 dwellings were restored, 8,000 had waterproofing done, 69 were fixed after a fire, and 2,700 decaying homes were reconstructed till 2011.
Ghanim Al Buainain, the Minister of Parliament and Shura Council Affairs, stated that the Cabinet will consider all of the arguments brought forth.
Implementing these plans and providing updates on their status have been assigned to the appropriate authorities.
