Dubai is renowned for its exceptional road infrastructure, making it a sought-after destination for drivers worldwide. To uphold order and safety on these remarkable roads, Dubai has implemented a comprehensive set of traffic regulations that all motorists must adhere to. Violating these rules can result in severe consequences, including substantial fines and the accumulation of black points on one’s driving record.

Are you a driver in Dubai who is unfamiliar with the black points system? It is imperative to familiarize yourself with its workings and how to effectively manage it. The black points system plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety in Dubai, making it essential for drivers to comprehend its mechanisms. This article aims to provide insights on how to check and eliminate black points from your driving license, thereby safeguarding your driving privileges.

What are Black Points, and Why Should You Care?

Black Points are penalties issued to drivers in Dubai for traffic violations. Each violation incurs a certain number of traffic fines based on its severity. These points are then recorded on your driving license and can accumulate over time.

Why Should You Care?

  1. Getting too many points can lead to extreme consequences, such as:
  • license suspension
  • cancellation
  1. It can also increase insurance premiums and difficulties when renewing your vehicle registration.

How Black Points are Issued in Dubai?

In Dubai, drivers are issued black points as penalties for traffic violations. These violations can vary from minor offenses such as parking in a prohibited area to more serious ones like speeding or reckless driving. Depending on the severity of the violation, each infraction receives a specific number of points.

These points are then documented on the driver’s license. It is crucial to understand that points can accumulate over time if multiple violations occur. By familiarizing themselves with these violations, drivers can proactively take the necessary measures to avoid them and uphold a pristine driving record.

Consequences of Accumulating Black Points

Accumulating black points on your driving license in Dubai can result in severe repercussions. These penalties may lead to the suspension or even cancellation of your license, rendering it illegal for you to operate a vehicle.

Furthermore, accruing too many points can result in increased insurance premiums and complications when renewing your vehicle registration. These consequences can significantly impact your driving privileges, finances, and overall convenience.

Once you reach 24 accumulated points, the RTA will suspend your driving license for a specified duration. The length of this suspension will vary depending on how many times you have reached the 24-point threshold on your Dubai driver’s license.

  • First time: Three-month license suspension
  • Second time: Six-month license suspension
  • Third time: One-year license suspension; you must retake the driving test and receive driving lessons from an accredited driving school in Dubai.

How to Check Black Points on Your License

To check the black points on your license, you can conveniently do so online through the Dubai Police website or the Dubai Police smart app. Simply log in using your Emirates ID and follow the instructions to access your driving record. Once you have gained access, you will be able to see the number of points accumulated and the specific details of the traffic violations that resulted in them.

It is crucial to regularly monitor your black points to stay informed and take necessary actions to address them. Do not wait until it is too late; stay proactive in managing your driving record to ensure a safer and more seamless driving experience in Dubai.

How to Remove Black Points from Your Driving License in Dubai?

If you have found yourself with black points on your driving license in Dubai, there is no need to panic. Fortunately, there are several ways to have them removed.

The first and most effective step is to enroll in a defensive driving course that is approved by the Dubai Police. By completing this course, you can have up to eight points removed from your license, significantly improving your driving record.

Alternatively, you can choose to wait for the points to expire, as they have a validity period of one year. However, it is crucial to remember that during this waiting period, you must avoid accumulating any additional points to prevent further complications.

If you believe that the black points were unjustly issued to you, you have the option to appeal against them. It is essential to follow the proper procedures and provide any necessary evidence to support your case.

Managing and removing points from your license is vital for maintaining a clean driving record and ensuring a safer driving experience in Dubai. By taking proactive steps to address black points, you can protect your driving privileges and promote road safety for yourself and others.

Some Common Traffic Violations and Their Corresponding Black-Point Values

  1. Speeding: 4 to 12 points, depending on the degree of over-speeding.
  2. Running a red light: 8 points.
  3. Using a mobile phone while driving: 4 points.
  4. Reckless driving: 23 points.
  5. Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 60 km/h: 23 points.

How to Get a 35% Discount on Traffic Fines to Reduce Black Points?

According to the UAE’s Ministry of Interior, including the Abu Dhabi Police, there is a valuable tip for those looking to save money and reduce their black or dark points. In Dubai, the Traffic Fines Settlement initiative offers drivers a 35% discount on their traffic fines and the opportunity to have points removed. By paying fines within two months (60 days) of the incident, drivers can benefit from the 35% reduction, while waiting a year results in a 25% discount.

Authorities have made it possible for fines to be paid in installments through banks, with a 12-month 0% interest term. It is important to note that significant offenses are not eligible for this reduction. To take advantage of this opportunity, ensure fines are paid within the specified timeframe and visit the Dubai Police website or app to request the removal of traffic fines. This initiative presents a fantastic chance to save money while upholding a clean driving record. Do not miss out on this opportunity to reduce fines and points!

Tips for Avoiding Black Points in the Future

To avoid accumulating traffic fines on your driving license in Dubai, it is crucial to adhere to a few essential tips.

Firstly, it is imperative to always obey traffic laws and regulations, such as speed limits and traffic signals.

Additionally, being aware of your surroundings and implementing defensive driving techniques can help prevent accidents and violations.

Staying informed about any changes in traffic rules and regulations by regularly checking the Dubai Police website or app is also essential.

Lastly, prioritizing road safety and considering enrolling in defensive driving courses to improve your skills and knowledge can be beneficial.

By following these guidelines, you can maintain a clean driving record and steer clear of the inconvenience of dealing with traffic fines in the future.
