Dubai Municipality has announced an ambitious plan to develop 35 new parks across the emirate this year, backed by an investment of AED 348 million. This significant initiative is a cornerstone of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and aligns with the broader Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to enhancing community wellbeing and urban liveability.
The new parks, collectively spanning over 340,000 square metres, are strategically designed to serve 23 residential communities. A key objective of this expansion is to ensure that the majority of residents will have access to a public green space within a five-minute walk from their homes. This human-centric approach aims to foster healthier lifestyles, encourage social interaction, and further cement Dubai’s reputation as a premier global city for living, working, and visiting.
The features within these parks are extensive and cater to diverse community needs, including over 60 children’s play areas, 18 football fields, 20 multi-use sports courts, skate areas, running and cycling tracks, and ample open green spaces. Shaded seating, picnic areas, and water features will create inviting environments for relaxation and recreation. Furthermore, the initiative emphasizes environmental resilience through expanded tree planting, climate adaptation measures, and the integration of recycled irrigation water and renewable energy solutions.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted that this portfolio reflects a commitment to integrated public spaces within a human-centric urban ecosystem. By 2040, Dubai Municipality aims to deliver 310 new parks and upgrade more than 220 existing ones, creating an interconnected network of inclusive, community-driven public spaces. This forward-looking strategy not only enhances green infrastructure but also stimulates economic activity through public-private partnerships, contributing to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
