Residents of Sharjah whose vehicles were damaged during the recent heavy rains and high winds can now obtain an official certificate from the police.

The Sharjah Police have announced that motorists can request a ‘to whom it may concern’ certificate through their mobile app. This certificate can then be submitted to insurance companies for claims processing.

To access the certificate on the Sharjah Police app, motorists should navigate to the ‘police services’ section and select the ‘to whom it may concern’ option. They will need to provide details about the damages, including where and when they occurred, as well as submit photos and information about ownership and insurance.

During the recent severe weather conditions in the UAE, trees and branches fell on parked vehicles, causing significant damage. Fortunately, most comprehensive insurance packages cover damages caused by weather-related incidents, including heavy rains.

By obtaining the official certificate from the police, Sharjah residents can streamline the process of filing insurance claims for their damaged vehicles.

Step-by-step guide for obtaining a ‘To whom it may concern’ certificate through Sharjah Police:

  1. Begin by downloading the Sharjah Police app, available for both Apple and Android devices.
    2. Once the app is installed, open it and navigate to the ‘service’ option located at the bottom of the screen. Look for the second option, which features a service card icon.
    3. From the menu at the top of the screen, select ‘police services’. This option is the second one on the menu and is represented by a police officer icon.
    4. Scroll down until you find the ‘To whom it may concern’ certificate service.
    5. Click on ‘Access service’ and then choose the certificate category as ‘criminal’.
    6. You will be prompted to indicate whether you are requesting the certificate for yourself or someone else. Select ‘self’.
    7. Choose ‘destruction’ as the certificate type and specify your user type as ‘resident’, ‘tourist’, or ‘citizen’. Provide your passport details if you are a tourist, or your Emirates ID number if you are a resident or citizen. Your mobile number registered under your immigration file will be displayed based on your email ID.
    8. Enter your email address when prompted.
    9. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number for verification purposes. Enter this OTP to confirm your identity.
    10. Specify the details of the damage to your car. Under ‘destruction type’, select ‘vehicle’.
    11. Provide the location and date of the incident.
    12. Choose the relevant police station from the drop-down menu and provide details of the damage.
    13. Select ‘To whom it may concern’ as the requesting authority. Alternatively, you can opt for the ‘insurance company’ and select the appropriate company from the dropdown menu. If you choose the latter, the insurance company will also receive a copy of the approved certificate via email.
    14. Attach any photos of the damage and submit them.

The application will be reviewed by Sharjah Police and if approved, the certificate will be sent to you via email.
