Abu Dhabi is embarking on an ambitious economic expansion strategy, with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) announcing a target to attract Dh235 billion in investments by 2045. This significant influx of capital is projected to generate 130,000 new job opportunities, primarily focused on highly skilled talent within the innovation economy. The initiative underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to strengthening its global competitiveness through strategic investments, talent attraction, and robust private sector partnerships.
The emirate’s economic vision is anchored in fostering a sustainable economy that adheres to international standards. ADDED consistently highlights Abu Dhabi’s approach, which involves proactive forward-looking strategies, dependable services, and trustworthy regulatory frameworks designed to draw foreign direct investment. This concerted effort has already yielded substantial results, with Abu Dhabi recording robust real GDP growth for more than 18 consecutive quarters. Notably, non-oil sectors now contribute over half of the emirate’s total economic output, signifying successful diversification efforts.
These targets are distributed across four specialized economic clusters, aiming to cultivate a diverse and resilient economic landscape. The focus on innovation-driven employment reflects Abu Dhabi’s aspiration to position itself as a hub for advanced industries and a magnet for skilled professionals. This strategic direction aligns with the emirate’s established track record in global competitiveness, where it ranks among the top 10 economies worldwide in terms of GDP per capita.
For potential investors, Abu Dhabi presents a compelling proposition. Its economy is already well-diversified, supported by a legislative and regulatory environment conducive to business growth. The emirate boasts advanced infrastructure and an integrated business ecosystem, designed to facilitate the establishment, market access, and expansion of enterprises. Al Mazrouei underscored these advantages, stating that Abu Dhabi offers “a diversified economy, a supportive legislative and regulatory environment, advanced infrastructure, and an integrated ecosystem that enables businesses to establish operations, access markets, grow and expand.”
Further bolstering investor confidence is Abu Dhabi’s formidable financial foundation. The emirate is often referred to as a “capital of capital,” a reputation built on the strength of its investment institutions. Its sovereign wealth funds collectively manage assets estimated at more than $1.9 trillion, providing unparalleled financial stability. This is complemented by a sovereign credit rating of AA with a stable outlook, affirming Abu Dhabi’s robust financial health and its appeal as a secure destination for long-term investment. The comprehensive strategy aims to solidify Abu Dhabi’s standing as a premier global economic force.
