During the holy month of Ramadan, there is a significant surge in the number of pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. - Influenza vaccine is mandatory
Influenza vaccination is now a mandatory requirement for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims in the UAE. Since March 26, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has implemented this regulation to ensure the health and safety of all pilgrims.
If you are planning to embark on a pilgrimage soon, it is crucial to prioritize getting the influenza vaccine. MOHAP advises pilgrims to receive the vaccine at least 10 days before their departure to ensure its effectiveness and boost their immunity. Individuals with underlying health conditions should consult their healthcare provider to assess their readiness for Hajj and Umrah.
Flu vaccines are readily available in private clinics, hospitals, and government health centers throughout the UAE. These facilities are operated by reputable organizations such as Dubai Health, Emirates Health Services (EHS), Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), and Mubadala Health. If you have already been vaccinated against influenza within the past year, there is no need for an additional dose. Simply present your vaccination card, accessible through the Al Hosn app, at the time of your departure. This will serve as proof of your vaccination status and compliance with MOHAP’s requirements.
- Your UAE visa must be valid for a minimum of 90 days.
The Saudi eVisa, accessible to residents of the UAE, is a multiple-entry visa that remains valid for one year. When applying for this visa, it is crucial to ensure that your UAE residence visa has a validity of at least three months. If you had previously applied for the visa and are planning to travel during Ramadan, it is essential to confirm that your UAE residence visa still has a validity of at least three months at the time of your departure.
Furthermore, your passport must have a validity of at least six months.
- Apply for Nusuk – you can only perform Umrah once in Ramadan
On March 17, 2024, Saudi Arabia announced that only one Umrah permit will be issued per person for Ramadan.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (MOHU) stated that Ramadan is the busiest time for Umrah pilgrims, and limiting the number of permits will help manage overcrowding.
To perform Umrah during Ramadan, Muslims traveling from abroad must apply for a permit in advance through the Nusuk mobile application. It is essential to obtain the Umrah permit before arriving at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
