It is crucial to be aware of the speed limits on different types of roads, whether you are driving on a highway, main road, or a one-way lane in your community. Adhering to these limits is essential to ensure the safety of yourself and other road users.

In Dubai, the Dubai Police provides a comprehensive database of speed limits for major roads on their website, dubaipolice.gov.ae. These limits typically range from 60 kmph to 120 kmph, reflecting the higher speeds allowed on major roads in the Emirate. However, it is important to recognize that speed limits on internal roads near neighborhoods and schools are usually lower, typically around 40 kmph.

By familiarizing yourself with the speed limits on different types of roads, you can help maintain safety for yourself and others while driving in Dubai. Accessing the Dubai Police website for up-to-date information on speed limits is a valuable resource for all drivers in the Emirate.

What is the list?

The list provided by Dubai Police offers essential information about the main roads in Dubai, such as the street or road name, speed limits, presence of radar control, and the number of lanes available.

Why is road speed different from radar control?

Radar control is the threshold at which a driver will be detected by a radar for exceeding the speed limit. In Dubai, drivers are given a grace speed limit of 20kmph, beyond which they will face penalties for speeding. For instance, if the designated speed limit on a road is 80kmph, drivers are allowed a buffer of 20kmph. Therefore, driving at 90kmph will not result in a speeding fine. However, once a driver exceeds 101kmph, their vehicle will be captured by a radar camera.

Due to the widespread use of radar monitoring on roadways, drivers exceeding the speed limit are often captured by radar cameras and subsequently issued fines. The specific amount of the fine and penalty is determined by the degree to which the speed limit was exceeded at the time of the violation.
