The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), Abu Dhabi’s transportation administration, announced on July 10 that free public parking in the Emirate has now been changed from Friday to Sunday. If you’re traveling to Abu Dhabi today.
Additionally, from Monday through Saturday, there will be a fee if you pass through the Darb toll gate; on Sundays, there will be no fee.
Here is everything you need to know about the Darb toll gate system in Abu Dhabi and the paid parking system, MAWAQiF since the schedule has changed.
Why have the timings changed?
The UAE’s new weekend, which is now Saturday and Sunday and went into effect on January 1, 2022, is in keeping with this new choice.
The decision to alter the schedule, according to a statement by ICP, is made in accordance with the needs of the transportation industry and improves the streamlining and mobility of traffic during weekday peak hours, promotes traffic flow, and raises safety standards on the emirate’s roadways.
Parking in Abu Dhabi
You might have noticed that there are two different kinds of parking spaces in Abu Dhabi. The two varieties of parking are:
Residential parking permits or premium parking (indicated by a blue and white curb or sign)
Regular parking (indicated by a blue and black curb)
Can a visitor park in a residential parking space in Abu Dhabi?
It is also significant to remember that there are residential parking lots that, during specific hours of the day, are off-limits to visitors. The conventional parking spots that are found in residential neighborhoods include resident parking spaces, according to ITC. They are identified by a blue line or MAWAQiF marker that reads “Resident Permit Only.”
Only residents with resident parking permits are permitted to utilize parking spaces in certain residential zones overnight, from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. every day.
Non-permit holders can use these parking places for the remainder of the day after paying the parking fees, though.
Parking timings in Abu Dhabi
Standard parking is free on Sundays, but after 9 p.m., non-permit holders are not permitted to park in resident spaces.
From Saturday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12 a.m., premium parking is a fee. Premium parking is cost-free on Sunday.

According to ITC, these are the parking costs in Abu Dhabi:
Standard: Dh2 per hour
The maximum time a car may park its card in a normal parking space is four hours.
Premium: Dh3 per hour
A maximum of 24 hours can be spent leaving your car parked.

Darb toll gate
You must sign up for the toll gate system if you have recently moved to Abu Dhabi or are simply visiting the Emirate and plan to use the Darb toll gate.
By creating an account on the official Darb website, darb.itc.gov.ae, you can register your vehicle.
ITC stated in the release that the Darb toll gate system fees will be in effect from Monday through Saturday and would be waived on Sundays and legal holidays.
Cost:
Each crossing costs Dh4, and the daily cap for private vehicles is Dh16. This means that you will only be charged a maximum of Dh16 if you pass through the gates more than four times in one day. Sundays and public holidays are exempt from fees.
Darb toll gate timings:
Only during rush hour is the toll gate open, and it is open from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Darb toll gate.
