Salik fines – all you need to know about the toll system

Some of the major roads in the Emirate are tolled using the Salik system, whether you are new to Dubai or have begun driving in the city. You only need to put a tag on your car’s windscreen and register your account to be able to utilize the roads that have a Salik gate; there are no toll booths or barriers in operation.

Both neglecting to register your vehicle with Salik and failing to keep enough money in your Salik account are punishable by fines for the vehicle owner. Here is everything you need to know about the violations, the potential fine amount, and the choices open to drivers to pay these fines.

What are the different types of Salik violations you may face?

When driving in the city, you need primarily be alert for two types of violations:

1. Insufficient Funds – Dh50 fine

If you use the toll gate with insufficient funds on your Salik account, you may be fined Dh50 or more. This is so that the toll system may deduct the appropriate amount from users’ prepaid accounts. So, Dh4 is taken out of your account each time you pass a toll gate. Fines may be imposed if insufficient amounts are present. Even though you might still be able to pass through the toll gate, you must top off your Salik account within five working days of doing so. For every day that you pass from below a toll gate without doing so, you will be fined Dh50.

2. Unregistered Plate – Dh100 to Dh400 fine

You have 10 days from the date of your first trip to register for a Salik tag if your automobile does not have one and you drive through a toll gate. The following fines will be assessed for failure to comply:

  • D100 the first time you use the toll gate after the 10 days have passed.
  • Dh200 the second trip
  • Dh400 each subsequent time you drive through a toll gate.

The Salik website states that each car is only allowed a single infraction per day. This indicates that even if you utilize the toll gate multiple times throughout the day, only one infraction will be recorded.

How to check Salik’s fines

On the mobile number associated with the vehicle, you will get an SMS notification as soon as you pass a toll gate and a violation is recorded. The SMS will include information about the specific offense, as well as how long you have to top off your account or register the Salik tag.

However, if the registered cellphone number is accessible to you and you still want to verify if you have any Salik violations, you can do so using the methods listed below:

1. Salik website

  1. Click “Salik Services” from the menu tab on the Salik website at http://www.salik.ae.
  2. Choose the “Violations” Category under “Salik Services.”
  3. After that, enter the information for your vehicle’s registration:
  • Source plate (which Emirate the car is registered in)
  • Plate category—indicating whether the vehicle is a personal or business one.
  1. After providing the information, press the blue “search” button.
  2. Next, the Salik database will check to see if the vehicle has any violations that have been recorded against it.

2. Dubai Drive App

  1. From the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, download the “Dubai Drive” app.
  2. Select the “Salik” category after opening the app.
  3. Choose the section under “Violations and Disputes.”
  4. Type the details of the license plate number:
  • Plate source
  • Plate type
  • Plate code and plate number
  1. Tap the ‘find’ button.
