The UAE’s hospitality sector experienced a significant boost during the October half-term break, with staycation bookings recording a substantial 31% increase year-on-year. This upward trend highlights a growing preference among families for local holidays, driving robust domestic tourism across the Emirates.
Dubai emerged as the primary beneficiary of this domestic demand, capturing a dominant 78% share of staycation bookings. The emirate’s diverse range of leisure attractions and world-class hospitality offerings continue to position it as a top choice for residents seeking local getaways. Following Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah also registered strong interest, solidifying their positions as key destinations for family-centric breaks within the UAE.
Analysis of booking patterns indicates a clear preference for specific types of accommodations. Hotels situated in proximity to major leisure attractions proved particularly popular, catering to families looking for convenient access to entertainment and activities. Additionally, all-inclusive beach resorts across the UAE saw elevated demand, appealing to those seeking relaxing getaways with comprehensive amenities.
This surge in local holiday bookings reflects evolving consumer behaviour, where convenience, quality, and proximity are increasingly valued. While domestic tourism flourished, the international travel market from the UAE also maintained its strength. Popular long-haul destinations such as the Maldives and Thailand continued to attract significant interest, demonstrating a dual dynamic within the travel sector where both local and global experiences are actively pursued by UAE residents.
The robust performance of the staycation segment underscores the resilience and attractiveness of the UAE’s tourism infrastructure. It further reinforces the strategic investments made by the government and private sector in developing diverse attractions and high-quality hospitality options, catering effectively to both residents and international visitors. The ongoing growth in domestic travel provides a stable foundation for the hospitality industry, complementing the strong influx of international tourists throughout the year.
