As the winter months approach, UAE residents can now take full advantage of the plethora of outdoor attractions available in Dubai. Whether you seek thrilling adventures with friends or a relaxing weekend with family, here are the top five attractions in Dubai to consider:

1. Hatta hiking trails

The picturesque city of Hatta finds itself nestled amidst the majestic Hajar mountains, offering a breathtaking backdrop for adventure seekers. Embarking on a hiking trail is undoubtedly one of the finest ways to unravel the hidden treasures of its peaks and wadis. Currently, these trails span an impressive 32.6 kilometers, boasting five distinct routes tailored to cater to hikers of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned trail runners.

To ensure seamless navigation, these routes have been thoughtfully color-coded, presenting a visual guide for hikers. The trails are categorized into four levels of difficulty: green, blue, red, and black. This thoughtful arrangement ensures that every individual, regardless of their expertise, can partake in the exploration of Hatta’s natural splendor.

These trails are open to the public, beckoning adventurers from far and wide to immerse themselves in the awe-inspiring beauty that Hatta has to offer.

Hatta hiking routes

Green – Easy Trails
Green-grade hiking trails are ideal for beginners or novice walkers and runners. These trails offer gentle and accessible terrain, perfect for those who are just starting their hiking or running journey.

Blue – Moderate Trails
Blue-grade trails are well-suited for intermediate-level walkers and runners. These trails provide a slightly more challenging terrain, allowing individuals to progress and enhance their skills.

Red – Difficult Trails
Red-grade hiking trails are designed for proficient walkers and runners. These trails offer a higher level of difficulty, requiring a certain level of expertise. It is recommended for hikers to utilize hiking poles while traversing this route to ensure stability and safety.

Black – Severe Trails
Black-grade hiking trails are reserved for expert walkers and runners who are accustomed to physically demanding and technically challenging routes. These trails present the ultimate test of skill and endurance. It is strongly advised for hikers to utilize hiking poles on black routes to navigate the rugged terrain effectively.

By categorizing hiking trails into different grades, individuals can easily identify the level of difficulty that suits their experience and capabilities. Whether you are a beginner seeking a leisurely stroll or an experienced hiker looking for a thrilling adventure, there is a trail for everyone. Remember to always prioritize safety and be prepared with the necessary equipment for a successful and enjoyable hiking or running experience.

5 hiking rules to remember

  1. Inform a friend or family member of where you intend to hike.
    2. Carry a trail map.
    3. Carry the right equipment.
    4. Have your mobile phone fully charged.
    5. Study and match the colour-coded system of Hatta Trails to your physical ability.

2. Mushrif Hiking Trail

Dubai Municipality has established a captivating hiking trail spanning 9.7 kilometers within the picturesque Mushrif National Park. This trail offers a multitude of tracks, catering to both novice adventurers and seasoned professionals. The recreational track, painted in a vibrant yellow hue, stretches across 8.3 kilometers, while the invigorating orange sports track spans 1.4 kilometers. Excitingly, this awe-inspiring trail was unveiled to the public on June 20, 2023.

Amenities along the trail

Administrative and supervisory personnel are stationed at the track locations. The amenities offered include accessible public restrooms, safety instructions, and warning signage boards providing clear directions. The trail itself boasts an array of captivating sculptures, charming wooden stairways and bridges, gentle slopes, and inviting rest areas. These features collectively offer visitors a panoramic view of the breathtaking landscape and abundant wildlife found within the enchanting Mushrif Park.

8 safety rules to follow

The municipality has issued a set of guidelines for visitors and hikers to ensure their safety while using the tracks. These guidelines include:

  1. Mountain hikers should make sure they have enough drinking water and wear appropriate clothing, footwear, and safety gear for hiking.
    2. Children aged 12 to 15 are allowed to use the tracks, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
    3. Hikers should follow the trail etiquette and instructions posted on the boards.
    4. Hikers should prioritize the safety of cyclists using the mountain bike trail in Mushrif Park by giving them the right of way when crossing.
    5. Always walk in the direction of the trail, not against it.
    6. Stick to the designated track and avoid straying off course.
    7. Choose the appropriate track level, as the orange track is designed for skilled athletes with higher levels of fitness and endurance.
    8. Avoid activities such as cooking, smoking, camping, and staying overnight in the forest after hiking.

By adhering to these guidelines, visitors and hikers can enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience on the tracks.

3. Mamzar beach chalets

On the other hand, a large chalet suitable for eight to twelve individuals costs Dh200 plus a five percent VAT.

Moreover, an additional fee of Dh20 is applicable, which contributes towards fostering knowledge and promoting innovation.

In order to enter the chalet area, it is necessary to pay an entrance fee to access Al Mamzar Park. The Dubai Municipality has established the following fees:

  • A fee of Dh30 per car is required, and payment must be made using a NOL card.
    • For individuals, a fee of Dh5 is applicable, and payment can be made either in cash or with a NOL card.
    • People of Determination and children under the age of two are exempt from any charges.

Please note that these fees are subject to change, and it is advisable to check with the Dubai Municipality for the most up-to-date information.

4. Global Village

One of the most sought-after destinations in Dubai during the cooler months is Global Village. This family-friendly attraction offers visitors a unique opportunity to indulge in shopping for traditional items from around the world. Moreover, it boasts a wide array of food stalls and restaurants that tantalize your taste buds with global cuisines. Additionally, Global Village hosts a vibrant carnival atmosphere, featuring over 170 thrilling rides, games, and attractions.

This magnificent natural flower garden, boasting an astounding collection of over 150 million flowers, is now open for the winter season starting from September 29, 2023.
